Affordable Rental Housing

Fresno Housing owns, maintains, and/or manages government-subsidized housing, enabling eligible low-income families, the elderly, and persons with disabilities access to quality, safe, well-maintained rental housing. Housing units vary in size from studio to 5-bedroom. Some are apartments, others are townhomes, and some are single-family homes. Each complex offers amenities appropriate for the residential mix, and all are maintained to ensure attractive, safe settings for families. Fresno Housing provides a range of on-site programs for residents, including job training, life skills, youth activities, and substance abuse counseling.

To apply for housing, a potential resident must first identify the property in which they would like to live.

Types of
Housing

Each housing type has different eligibility requirements with associated housing that serves a spectrum of populations ranging from low-income individuals, veterans, special needs families, survivors of domestic violence, migrant workers, farm laborers, seniors, and youth aged-out of foster care.

Families & Individuals

There is a range of housing types and programs that serves a spectrum of individuals and families ranging from low-income, veterans, special needs, survivors of domestic violence, migrant workers, farm laborers, seniors, and youth aged-out of foster care. Each housing type and program has different eligibility requirements and rates.

For Subsidized Housing, the resident will pay approximately 30% of the household’s adjusted gross income. In Affordable Housing, the rental rates are already set but are lower than the average rental rates. Fresno Housing also manages other government-subsidized units known as Public Housing. Conventional Housing rates do not change based on resident income. There are income requirements, and rents are set based on the surrounding market.

Senior Housing

While all of the nearly 4,000 housing units owned and/or managed by Fresno Housing are available to seniors, there are three residential complexes designated specifically for those over the age of 62. Rent at these complexes is based on an amount no greater than 30 percent of the resident’s adjusted gross income.

Senior units offer amenities and are maintained and upgraded by Fresno Housing regularly, to ensure an attractive, safe setting. In addition, Fresno Housing provides numerous programs for residents at these complexes.

To be considered for this housing, applicants must:

Receive at least $5,752.50 of income, annually, from an agriculture-related source.


Meet specific income criteria.


Families that qualify for Farm Labor Housing pay 30% of their adjusted gross income toward rent. The balance is paid by USDA Rural Development to Fresno Housing.

Fresno Housing is committed to providing quality housing with permanent supportive services to homeless individuals and families throughout Fresno County. The agency is developing a group of apartment buildings scattered throughout the city of Fresno specially designed to serve the needs of Fresno residents who are homeless, mentally ill, or disabled. These properties include “Renaissance” in their name, inspired by FH’s commitment to revitalizing buildings and transforming the lives of the residents. Apartments at all the Renaissance complexes utilize Project-Based Vouchers.

Families pay affordable, daily rates during their stay. The income source of the resident must be verified. The centers are subsidized by USDA and/or the Office of Migrant Services.
